The election of opposition candidate Mauricio Macri as Argentina’s new president heralds a potentially momentous political shift in one of South America’s largest economies. Markets have greeted his electoral success with enthusiasm, yet the president-elect will inherit severe macroeconomic distortions upon his inauguration on December 10.
