  •  Luis Liberman, Vice President of Costa Rica

In closing remarks at AS/COA's San José conference, the Costa Rican vice president gave an overview of the positive impact of CAFTA-DR in Costa Rica, in areas from competitiveness to expanding market diversification. Looking back on the past five years, Costa Rica made the right decision in joining, he said. This can be shown by the fact that, despite the 2009 global economic crisis, exports keep growing, as well as foreign direct investmest.

The vice president explained that Costa Rica now has agreements giving it access to 54 countries and 2.5 billion people, or two-thirds of global GDP. In 2012, the country saw a record number of 2,504 companies exporting products. He concluded that while challenges remain, the correct path was taken to advance development.
