New AQ Released: Trade Is Back!

AQ's 2015 summer issue covers everything from imports to exports, FTAs to the TPP, and includes the highly anticipated 2015 Social Inclusion Index.

From imports to exports, FTAs to the TPP, the 2015 summer issue of Americas Quarterly takes a look at the trends and attitudes shaping trade in our hemisphere. The verdict? Trade is back!

WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo shares an expert view on why the world needs a global trade deal, Ambassador Luis Miguel Castilla shows how free trade turned Peru into a global player, Barbara Kotschwar and Nicolás Albertoni look at how we trade in the hemisphere, and many more of the region’s most influential voices offer their perspectives on the past, present, and future of commerce in the Americas. With more than 25 articles from leading correspondents, analysts, and policymakers, the AQ summer issue has every corner of the hemisphere covered.

The summer issue also includes AQ’s 2015 Social Inclusion Index, a systematic ranking of countries in the region based on variables ranging from GDP growth and adequate housing to minority rights and civil society participation. Heading the list for 2015 is Uruguay, Latin America’s social inclusion champion for the second year in a row.

AQ also profile seven Afro-descendant leaders whose fresh ideas are making a difference in the region, and offer dispatches on race and ethnicity and the progress—and failings—of reproductive rights in Latin America. Plus, an op-ed from Argentina’s ambassador to the U.S., Cecilia Nahón, argues for an international framework for sovereign debt restructuring.

As always, there’s plenty of arts and culture to go around. In this issue, AQ suggests 10 things to do in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, visits the World Tango Festival in Buenos Aires, and reviews the Cuban film Vestido de Novia.
