MetLife Foundation’s Fifth Year of Funding Continues Concert Series’ Impact

NEW YORK, May 17, 2012 — Americas Society is proud to announce that it has received a $75,000 grant from MetLife Foundation for its 2012-2013 MetLife Foundation Music of the Americas Concert Series.

This is the fifth year in a row that Americas Society has received support from MetLife Foundation, which to date has provided $375,000 in funding for the program and sustains broad engagement through regular collaborations with local and international cultural organizations as well as academic institutions.

Over the past several years, the generous support of MetLife Foundation has also strengthened Americas Society’s unique role and visibility as the premier presenter of diverse music from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada. “It has made a very important contribution to the success of our organization’s mission and has allowed us to significantly expand both our programming and audience,” says Americas Society President and CEO Susan Segal. A notable new partnership in 2012/2013 is with Carnegie Hall’s Voices from Latin America, a citywide festival taking place from November 8 through December 11, 2012.

The 2012-2013 season will feature iconic and emerging musicians, many of whom are now well known in the United States, and present the premiere of four newly commissioned pieces. The series will include roughly 25 concerts featuring a variety of musical styles, from tango to contemporary music, and from early music to jazz.

“The MetLife Foundation Music of the Americas Concert Series benefits audiences by offering them an exciting season of diverse music programming that is distinctive in New York City and in the United States,” says Americas Society Director of Music Sebastian Zubieta.
