Media Advisory: 46th Annual Washington Conference on the Americas

The May 3 conference will feature remarks by President of Panama Juan Carlos Varela and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

Washington, DC, April 29, 2016Council of the Americas and the U.S. Department of State are pleased to announce the 46th Annual Washington Conference on the Americas, to be held Tuesday, May 3, 2016, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The conference will feature remarks by President of Panama Juan Carlos Varela and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry as well as a series of moderated conversations with top officials from around the hemisphere, including U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, Minister of Production of Argentina Francisco Cabrera, and Minister of Defense of Colombia Luis Carlos Villegas, among others.

Luncheon Session with Remarks by President of Panama Juan Carlos Varela: 12:00 pm – 1:35 pm to be held in the Benjamin Franklin Room.

Afternoon Session: 2:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. to be held in the Loy Henderson Conference Room.
Pre-set time for video cameras: 1:15 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance.
Final access time for journalists and still photographers: 1:30 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance.

Remarks by Secretary of State John Kerry: 6:00 p.m. to be held in the Benjamin Franklin Room.

Admittance to the Department of State for this event will require press credentials with photo identification. Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center); (2) a media-issued photo identification card; or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport). Press should allow adequate time (at least 15 minutes) to process through security.
