Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's Tour of Latin America Underscores Iran's Reach

For most of the past year, reports of Iran's attempts to recruit Latin American drug cartels and link them to Hezbollah in their undeclared war against the United States ran under the radar screen.
It is only been since October that the mainstream media has reported on Hezbollah's activities in the region seriously and in detail. The skeptics may say that it all has to do with the planned visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and possibly Guatemala — a grand tour that began on Sunday...
...Some, like Eric Farnsworth, vice president of the Council of the Americas, sees the growing Iranian presence in Latin America as an indication that it will be harder to impose tough economic sanctions since there will be so many countries willing to ignore them.
"It allows you to say with some justification that the whole world is not against you," Farnsworth told the CSM.
