PBS NewsHour: In Honduras, Controversy Grows over Questions that Presidential Ouster is a Coup
NewsHour with Jim LehrerJuly 2, 2009
Speaking on Lehrer NewsHour, AS/COA's Christopher Sabatini characterized the removal of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya as a "classic coup." Sabatini added: "Having said that, it should be pointed out that this man has rightly been championed as being a victim of a coup, but he by no means should be seen as only a victim."
"We should not mistake the fact that a democratic institution, whether it's a president, elected president, or a supreme court or a congress, can overstep the bounds of institutionality, which is exactly what happened," he said. Sabatini concluded by saying he belives the crisis is not an "insoluble problem."
