Colombia Election Update
On October 28, over 15 million Colombians cast ballots to elect 32 governors, 1,098 mayors and local council members. The newly elected Bogota mayor, Samuel Moreno, defeated his challenger by over 15 percentage points.

After winning nearly 45 percent of the vote in the first round of elections, President-elect Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner will assume office on December 10. Continuing economic growth and revamping national statistics calculations will be top concerns.

U.S. Immigration Update: New State Laws
Without comprehensive immigration reform at the federal level, many U.S. state legislatures are now passing more immigration-related bills. In the first half of 2007, over 180 such bills became law in 43 states.
